I am a Chinese international student, who has studied in the U.S for almost one year. In 2014 I obtained my Bachelor’ degree in Zhejiang University of finance and commerce. After graduation, I worked as a photographer for weddings. Because of the love for the field of business, I decided to continue my education in the U.S and choose management as my graduate major. I believe that MS in Management will allow me to acquire business knowledge and those valuable knowledge could help me in the future business career.
Previously, my major was digital media. Four-year college life taught me a lot. I learned many skills in college such as photographic technique and film editing skill. After I mastered these skills, I realized that I need a new challenge. This is one of the reasons why I wanted to continue my education. Most interestingly, when I was a photographer, my partner’s major was accounting. He usually talked about some business theories and applied these ideas to our business. This experience really aroused my curiosity. Thus, I read relevant business journals and books so that I decided to choose management as my graduate major. Now, my partner, who graduated from a business school, was engaged in my previous field, but I was going to study in a business school. Additionally, this precious working experience inspired me to attempt something different and taught me to do everything insistently. For example, sometimes I met some mean clients. After I took pictures for them, they was always not satisfied in these pictures, so I have to face their blame and sarcasm. However, although I feel wronged, I could not respond to these clients. When I face challenges, I always remember this experience and told myself do not give up. I consider that this experience was pretty helpful for my graduate school life and the future career.
Speaking of my current program, I am studying in the Into Mason Graduate Pathway, which is devoted to developing international students to adjust American educational context and learn necessary learning skills in the following graduate program. Here, I strengthened the skill of academic writing. I figured out the writing conventions and requirement of my discipline. Financial Reporting and Statistic also provided me with a new idea that I deal with issues in a critical business thinking. Most importantly, I knew how to communicate with professors and domestic students. Pathway program helped me to adjust the new educational context, improve my language skills and offer me part of management graduate courses. Therefore, the Into Mason Graduate Pathway was very helpful and essential for my following educational career.
The business school of George Mason University is authoritative and distinguished. The business School of George Mason University obtained the AACSB certification, which is the most authoritative accreditation agency in business field. It demonstrated that this business school has a high quality of education. This is the reason why I apply to George Mason graduate business school. Also, I have confidence to study in management. I have a good mathematics and statistic foundations previously. By studying in these two semesters, I gain the confidence from the study, because I got an A score in both Financial Report and Statistic. Thus, I was confident to continue my graduate study in the Business School of George Mason University. Moreover, “negotiating”, “persuading” and “listening” are three significant skills I have. It is no doubt that these skills could be helpful for my following school life especially in a business school. I also want to study management knowledge to combine my skills with the practice and theory, so that I could use the business knowledge I learn in business school effectively in my future career path. The master degree of management could not only help me to find a better job, but also develop my interpersonal skills and critical thinking. I look forward to accepting this new challenge.
In conclusion, after two-semester study in the Into Mason Graduate Pathway, I was confident to start my new graduate school life in the George Mason University. I wrote this statement of purpose to show my ambition and the future goals. And I believe that I have enough capacities to get a good academic performance in my graduate school life.
